Despite storage of human skeletons in museums, they are lacking analysis due to absent specialists, a major wanting, which the present project attempts to solve. The physical anthropology workflow includes an initial database construction to incorporate archaeological and chronological data, macroscopic assessment of the skeletal assemblage, sampling for further biomolecular and biochemical analyses, and microscopic analysis. The macroscopic study targets osseous and dental inventory, sex and age at death estimations, non-metric traits, metric measurements, and a detailed screening for pathological features, including dental disease, osteoarthritis, metabolic disease, trauma and fractures, and skeletal response to infection. The results are used to reconstruct certain aspects regarding the health status, diet, and physical activity of the individuals. Furthermore, linking the biological data with the archaeological context at this scale allows us to identify, for the first time patterns of biological and social behavior, particularly in terms of social inequality and identity.
